Mission wrap: London 2018

In June we conducted our third annual mission to London for London Tech Week.

16 participants from Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales took part in the week long mission, with a total of 25 official events, meetings and tours, and another dozen private meetings organised by participants, as well as other events from the London Tech Week schedule.

We commenced the mission on Sunday afternoon with a briefing ahead of social drinks with the Victorian delegation and local Trade and Investment Queensland and UK DIT officers.

On Monday we had a private tour with Tech City Ventures, where we visited Runway East and WeWork Moorgate to hear and learn from Incube, SwiftScale, StreetBees, and Hambro Perks. From there we headed to the “Scale Up In London” event at City Hall to learn about the UK opportunity, before rooftop networking.

We rounded out the day with some local guests at dinner at The Swan in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

On Tuesday we visited Radi8 at Huckletree Shoreditch to learn about accelerated market entry into Europe, before heading to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) at RocketSpace to learn about their innovation programs. That evening we participated in the Tech Australia event at Australia House with a couple of hundred participants.

On Wednesday we visited the huge Plexal facility to learn about their space and innovation programs, before returning to the city to visit the CBA Innovation Lab for the ART of Digital panel event.

Then we returned to the Huckletree for a conversation with Aussie founders who have made the flip to the UK, before heading to the Tech Week’s Official Party at the Shoreditch Town Hall.

On Thursday we took a trip out to Level 39 at Canary Wharf for the Launch In London event, before returning for a Raising Capital in the UK private chat with UK Department for International Trade.

That evening we were hosted by Adepto (Catalyst 2016 alumni) for a rooftop social event.

On Friday, participants had the day to arrange their own private meetings before we visited Tech Will Save Us for a private tour of their factory with their amazing founder, ahead of drinks at the Silicon Drinkabout weekly event.

Finally we finished the mission on Saturday morning with a “decompression & reflection breakfast” – an opportunity for participants to share thoughts on the week that was, and their insights into key takeaways and lessons for when they get home.
